Chase as Governor of Ohio, dated Dec 6, 1859.  "Dear Sir, Will you accept the position of Member of the Board of ?? in place of Dr. Vattier resigned?  If so, please come to Columbus by the first train and consider this note as your appointment until you receive on arrival a more formal certificate.  Very respectfully, S.
