    Stassen, Franz (1869-1949):

Comments: * Thieme-Becker 31; Vollmer 4; Gutenberg 42.343. - Signed in the print. Stassen received his training at the Berlin University of Fine Arts. Initially inspired by naturalism, he became an icon of Art Nouveau. His role model Fidus is unmistakable. His world is Germanic mythology and male nudes. He is said to have created around 50 bookplates, but I do not know of a catalog raisonné. Although he openly confesses his homosexuality, Hitler added him to the God-favored list in 1944. - Small remnants of assembly on the back.
