    This is a signed letter by
    Leon H. Gavin
    (1893-1963),
    who
    was a U.S. Representative
    from Pennsylvania.
    Leon Harry Gavin
    was born in Buffalo, New York.
    He moved
    to Oil City, Pennsylvania, in 1915.
    During the First World War Gavin
    served in the
    U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 51st
    Infantry
    Regiment of the 6th Infantry Division.
    A Republican,
    Gavin was elected to the 78th
    U.S. Congress,
    and later to the ten succeeding
    Congresses. He served from January 3, 1943,
    until his death on September 15, 1963.
    He is interred in Arlington National Cemetery.
    The letter is dated June 7, 1950.
